Report of Author Workshop on Scientific Publishing & AI organised by the Central Library, IIT Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with Elsevier ScienceDirect, held on 28th August 2025

 

The Central Library, IIT Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with Elsevier ScienceDirect, organized an Author Workshop on “Latest Developments in Scientific Publishing, Publishing Ethics, and SD AI” on 28th August 2025. The workshop was designed to provide researchers, faculty members, research scholars, and students with valuable insights into the scholarly publishing process and the emerging role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research and publication. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation with more than 50 attendees, including faculty members, research scholars, students, and staff of IIT Bhubaneswar. The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Sahoo, Deputy Librarian, IIT Bhubaneswar, who highlighted the importance of such workshops in enhancing research productivity and awareness about publishing practices. The workshop was formally inaugurated by Dr. Sasidhar Kondaraju, Chairperson, Central Library, IIT Bhubaneswar, who emphasized the significance of author workshops in guiding early-career researchers and fostering a strong academic publishing culture within the Institute. The key resource person, Ms. Aishwarya Nayal, Customer Success Manager, Elsevier South Asia, delivered an insightful session on various aspects of academic publishing, including manuscript preparation and structuring, dos and don’ts for different sections, and language tips for journal writing. She explained the publishing process, covering submission workflow, editorial screening, peer review, writing effective cover letters, and responding to reviewers. Emphasis was placed on publishing ethics, highlighting common errors, plagiarism, and best practices. Ms. Nayal also guided participants on journal selection and transfer mechanisms, factors editors consider, and methods for identifying suitable journals. Additionally, she provided an overview of book publishing through ScienceDirect and discussed the emerging role of Generative AI in research and scholarly communication, introducing participants to SD AI tools and their applications in enhancing the publishing process. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sambhunath Sahoo, Assistant Librarian, IIT Bhubaneswar, who acknowledged the contributions of the speaker, Elsevier, and all participants.
