Central Library, IIT Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Springer Nature organized an Author workshop on “Scientific Writing & Publishing” on 25th August 2023 at Central Library, 4th floor, Administrative Building, IIT Bhubaneswar, Argul, Khordha. The workshop was aimed to provide valuable insights and guidance to researchers and academics on various aspects of scholarly publishing. The workshop was designed to assist participants in understanding the nuances of manuscript preparation, submission, peer review, and publication processes. There were more than 180 participants including faculty members, students, research scholars and staff attended the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Rajesh Roshan Dash, Dean (Student Affairs), IIT Bhubaneswar. He apprised the importance of author workshop to the participants in his address. The workshop started with a welcome address given by Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Sahoo, Deputy Librarian, IIT Bhubaneswar. Dr. Sahoo in his address highlighted the impact of author workshop on researchers of the academia.
The introduction about the speaker of the event was given by Ms. Alpana Sagwal, Head - Customer Engagement from Springer Nature. The key resource person of the workshop was Ms. Swati Meherishi, Editorial Director from Springer Nature. She has elaborated how to structure a research paper, what are the relevant sections, how should they be composed, dos and don’ts for each section, language tips when writing journal articles, peer-review process involved in a journal, ethics in publishing a paper in a journal, etc. She has also explained the factors to consider when selecting a home for research paper and how to find publications relevant to a researcher's topic area, what do editors look for in papers, etc. The speaker also touched upon briefly about Book Publishing covering highlights of Springer Nature and brief overview of Engineering Books program at Springer Nature. Participants had the opportunity to clarify doubts, seek advice and personalized guidance on their specific research-related concerns. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sambhunath Sahoo, Assistant Librarian, IIT Bhubaneswar.
